extract from Twelve Talk 92 by Bro Iain White....

This Twelve Talk is like the Crawford Kirkpatrick fanzine! Bro Crawford features again because he and that other staunch member of No XII and prolific visitor, Bro Eddie McGill, were given Honorary Membership of Lodge Firth of Clyde Gourock No 626 on Monday 12th December 2016.  There was a huge attendance at the meeting because, although the word was out there, in another sense it was the best kept secret in Freemasonry!  Included in the company were a large number of members of No XII and a deputation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Renfrewshire West.  Of course, Bros Crawford and Eddie have Honorary Grand Rank in the Provincial Grand Lodge of Renfrewshire West.

Bro W. Crawford Kirkpatrick 50 Years and Counting

Bro Crawford Kirkpatrick celebrated 50 years in No XII at our meeting on Tuesday 6th December 2016.  A regular at our meetings (and those of all the other Lodges in the Province and lodges beyond), Bro Crawford is one of the Province’s best known Masons.  It so happened that he received is 50 Year Diploma exactly 50 years to the day from his Initiation.  Bro Crawford’s Father, Bro Alexander A Kirkpatrick, served as Lodge Secretary between 1959 and 1965 years and was RW Master in 1968-70.  Bro Derek Kirkpatrick, Bro Crawford’s son, was RW Master of No XII between 1999 and 2001 and is proud to wear his grandfather’s Past Master’s jewel. The Kirkpatrick family connection with No XII began in 1911 when Bro Crawford’s Grandfather, Bro William Crawford Kirkpatrick (strange similarity there), joined the Lodge on 14th December.

Bro Derek lives in the south of England, his work having taken him there, so he does not get to our meetings as often as he would like, but he came up specially to see his father get his diploma.  All in all it was a very happy addition to our Annual Divine Service meeting.

The Province was well represented by RW Masters at the Installation of the Most Worshipful Grand Master Mason Bro Charles Iain Robert Wolridge-Gordon of Esslemont at the end of November.  Caught posing for the camera are, from the left, Bro Malcolm Sinclair (Lodge Crawfurdsburn Greenock No 1121), Bro Jim Cowan (The Anchor Lodge of Research No 1814), Bro Nicky Stetz (Lodge Firth of Clyde Gourock No 626) and our own RWM Bro Allan Glen.

Previous Meeting Tuesday 6th December The Annual Divine Service

The Annual Divine Service was again conducted by Bro John C Glenny PM.  We are very fortunate to have Bro Jack to support us in this capacity, foras well as being an accomplished ritual worker and a lover of the Craft, Bro Jack is a Reader of The Church of Scotland, and has conducted services around the country, In 2009, he was invited to address the Scottish Parliament at their "Time for Reflection" which they hold at the beginning of each new session. Bro Jack was Moderator of the Greenock and Paisley Presbytery in 2006.

The whole service was spiritually uplifting and delivered in Bro Jack’s customary engaging style.  After the readings Psalms Chapter 36 verses 5-9 and Jeremiah Chapter 18  verses 1-6 delivered by Bro J. Robert Crossan WSW and St John Chapter 15 verses 9-17 by Brian McFadyen WJW the theme for Bro Jack’s sermon was ‘The Potter’s Wheel’. The potter, Bro Jack told us, is one of the oldest jobs in manufacturing and requires great skill. Jeremiah is sent to the potter and sees him at work, creating artefacts of beauty and acknowledges the skill of the craftsman.  On occasion, the work may not be so good and the product does not meet expectations.  However, nothing is wasted for the clay can be remoulded and reshaped.  Bro Jack told us that the Bible saw God as the potter and the clay as his people.  We are moulded in His image and it is comforting to know that when times are difficult or confusing, we may be remoulded into something new. The connections between the Lodge and its members as the potter and his clay are clear as we all work to best serve His purpose.

We were delighted to be joined again by family and friends at the Service as well as brethren from Provincial Grand Lodge and visiting Lodges.

Next Meeting Tuesday 17th January Visitation by The Lodge of Erskine No 1566

LOE1566No XII has its first meeting of 2017 on Tuesday. Our visitors are The Lodge of Erskine No 1566.  The relationship between the Lodges has grown in recent years with Bro Brian McFadyen as the catalyst.  Bro Brian has been a member of No XII for many years, following in the footsteps of his late father, Bro John McFadyen, when he came into the Craft in No XII.  Bro John, of course, was an enthusiastic member of No XII serving in numerous Offices including Depute Master,

Bro Brian affiliated to The Lodge of Erskine as he lives up that way and was its RWM in 2015-16.  Now as IPM, he is Worshipful Junior Warden in No XII – a real Masonic enthusiast.  The two Lodges have now exchanged a number of visits and we look forward to Tuesday when Bro Iain McPhee, a Past Master of The Lodge of Erskine and Substitute Provincial Grand Master of Renfrewshire East, will give us an insight into the history of his Lodge and how its inception and workings have been influenced by the presence of the Erskine Hospital for veterans in its vicinity.  Bro Iain is an excellent communicator and we can look forward to an entertaining and instructive evening.
