Greetings from Germany

Recently I received the following from Bro Robert Grundmann in Germany

From Germany I send warm fraternal greetings to our RW Master, W Wardens, Office Bearers and all our Brethren wishing them all well.

On May, 7th, the Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany held its Annual Meeting in Bad Iburg a spa in Lower Saxony. This year our meeting was a special one as we could celebrate the 60th anniversary of our Grand Lodge. Among our distinguished visitors were the MW Grand Master of the United Grand Lodges of Germany Michael Volkwein and the MW Grand Master of the American – Canadian Grand Lodge AF&AM, one of our four partner Grand Lodges within the UGLoG.

MW brother Michael Volkwein proclaimed that from this day on our GL would bear its new name Grand Lodge of British Freemasonry in Germany.

The vast majority of our members had voted in favour of giving up the old name Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany and taking on the new one.

The reason behind this is that the number of British Brethren is decreasing while the number of members and initiates holding either the German or other passports is increasing.

Using the Emulation Ritual in English or as Kurt Tucholsky Lodge does in German we will continue the tradition of British Freemasonry which came to Germany with the Allied forces in the second half of the 1950's. A number of lodges had already been formed before the then Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany came into being in 1962.

Our 'cousins' formed the American – Canadian Grand Lodge in the same year.

To commemorate this double anniversary a little memento was made which is shown above – obvrse GLBFG, reverse ACGL.

Best wishes to you all – stay safe and well

Robert
